So recently, I've been working on my series of posts that will encompass our entire 2016 US Road Trip. It's going well, but long. I've already written three pages of content and have just barely gotten past the introduction and setup stuff. After that, there's 35 whole days where lots of interesting things happened... So least to say, I've got a lot of writing to do. But enough about work, this post is about play! We decided that we needed a quick adventure and so we ended up driving an hour and a half away to "The Hippy Hole".
The Hippy Hole is actually called Martha's Falls and is located in Alabama; just over the Georgia - Alabama State Line. It's nicknamed the Hippy Hole as the swim hole tends to attract a lot of visitors, mostly adventurous and friendly folks who are just out to have a good time. You can park up the street at Demoines Falls where there is an overlook of the 80ft waterfall that feeds into the Hippy Hole, or you can park down the street and have a 0.2 mile hike to, "the best swimming in the whole area" - As quoted by a friendly old park ranger we met.
If you park at Martha Falls, be sure you are good with walking up and down stairs as there is a rock staircase that transcends about two or three flights. After my recent knee injury in the Redwoods, I've been a bit iffy about stairs, but this really wasn't too bad.
Once you get out to the swim hole, there's a lot of different areas you can go. If you head right after you exit the trail, you'll head up stream and find quite a few little waterfalls and nice places to sit and chill out. If you head left, you'll head straight to the hippy hole. The rocks near water are all covered in moss and are very slick, so be sure to be careful around there. The terrain is mostly just large rocks that have fallen but are very fun to climb over and around. There's lots of natural rock shelves around too to stuff your bags in if it so happens to rain. Which, yes, it did rain on us.
But other than that, we laid out, jumped off rocks into deep water, chilled in a small water fall, climbed up a waterfall, met some really cool and friendly people, and I even got to spin a little staff out there! All in all, I'd highly suggest checking it out!
That's about it for the Hippy Hole! I'd really recommend visiting it and checking it out. Also, if you haven't stopped by the Facebook Page (Facebook.com/BobbyTaylorAdventures) or Instagram page (Instagram.com/BobbyTaylorAdventures) be sure to do so to get sneak previews of photos and content before I can upload it here to the blog! And also keep an eye out for the 2016 US Road Trip post series, it's going to have a lot of valuable content from safety, to budgeting, to Honda Element car modifications, to silly stories and lots and lots and lots of pictures!!!
